I begin creating my Fall organic soaps and lotions in the middle of August so the aromas of pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg are already waifting throughout the production area. Customers are presently ordering to beat the rush, which is actually a good thing!
It truly is a nice reprieve to come in from the heat to aromas that remind me of the months ahead. I start decorating the house in my mind's eye and envision the "pitter-patter" of tiny tots running up the walkway dressed in their Halloween costumes and parents chasing close behind.
I always look forward to the gatherings of family and friends but it can be exhausting all at the same time. This is the busy season for us and Fall Shows/Markets are squeezed in between dinners, parties and production time. Every year I say I will get a better handle on things but I never do! I will still end up rushing around like a chicken with my head cut off and plop into bed tired as a mule! In the morning it will start over. It's what us creative types live for I think. It's a good thing I love what I do.
So, start to pull out those Fall decorations so you know what you want to keep, give away, or sell. It really helps getting through these hot and muggy days. Mark your calendar and plan ahead. Remember though, when something throws a wrench into the works, try to grin and realize it's really just small stuff, comparatively speaking. Sometimes those surprises turn out to be little blessings telling you to slow down.
In the meantime it's nose to the grindstone and orders out the door. Fall is coming so hang in there!
