Le Skeeter Eater
Organic Natural Mosquito Repellent Lotion
DEET FREE
All Natural and DEET FREE Mosquito Repellent Lotion. Sweet Harvest Farms has taken their luxurious and hydrating lotion and added essential oils that help repel mosquitoes, flying insects and even No-See-Ums
With Malaria, West Nile, Zika Dengue Fever, and Chikungunya viruses transmitted through Mosquitoes, everyone is pushing repellents containing DEET. While it may be effective it is a chemical and is absorbed through your skin into your blood stream. It is also known to cause seizures in children.
Our lotion contains organic ingredients of: organic Shea Butter, Flaxseed Oil, Avocado Oil, Vitamin E, Aloe, Jojoba Oil, Sesame Seed Oil, Lemon Oil, Lavender Oil, Rosemary Oil, Vanilla Oil, Neem Oil, Peppermint Oil, Lemongrass, Lemon Eucalyptus (oil of Eucalyptus) , Geranium Oil, and Tea Tree Oil. Our recipe is our own unique blend of all these amazing organic essential oils and all scientifically proven to help ward off Mosquitoes.
How Our Botanical Oils Help Discourage Mosquitoes
Our botanical blend combines aromatic plant oils that mosquitoes simply don’t find very inviting. Each oil contributes its own naturally occurring aromatic compounds, creating layers of scent that can help interfere with the cues mosquitoes use to locate us.
Lemon Oil
Lemon oil contains naturally occurring compounds such as limonene and pinene. Its bright citrus aroma may help interfere with the scent cues mosquitoes use when searching for a host. Like many citrus essential oils, its aromatic compounds are volatile, so it works best as part of a broader botanical blend.
Lavender Oil
Lavender contains aromatic compounds including linalool and linalyl acetate. Studies have shown lavender essential oil can have mosquito-repelling activity. Its floral-herbal aroma helps create a scent environment mosquitoes tend to avoid.
Rosemary Oil
Rosemary’s strong herbal aroma comes from compounds such as 1,8-cineole, camphor and other naturally occurring terpenes. Rosemary has demonstrated mosquito-repellent activity in studies and contributes another strong aromatic layer to a botanical repellent blend.
Vanilla Oil
Vanilla plays a slightly different role. Its primary aromatic compound, vanillin, has been studied as a natural “fixative.” Rather than being one of the strongest mosquito repellents by itself, vanillin can help slow the evaporation of other aromatic ingredients, potentially allowing their scent — and repellent effect — to remain noticeable longer.
Neem Oil
Neem has a long history of traditional use for discouraging insects. Its naturally occurring compounds produce a distinctive aroma that mosquitoes and many other insects find undesirable. Studies of neem-based preparations have demonstrated mosquito-repelling activity, although results vary considerably depending upon the concentration and formulation.
Lemongrass Oil
Lemongrass is particularly valued in botanical insect blends because it contains high levels of citral, along with other strongly aromatic plant compounds. Its fresh lemony fragrance has demonstrated mosquito-repelling activity and helps make humans a little less appealing to these unwanted visitors.
Peppermint Oil
That cool, unmistakable peppermint aroma comes primarily from compounds such as menthol and menthone. Peppermint has demonstrated mosquito-repellent activity in research. Its intense aroma helps interfere with the scent environment mosquitoes rely upon when looking for their next landing place.
Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (OLE)
Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus is one of the most well-studied plant-based mosquito repellents. Its key repellent component, PMD (p-menthane-3,8-diol), helps interfere with the sensory cues mosquitoes use to locate people and discourages them from landing and biting.
Unlike ordinary lemon eucalyptus essential oil, OLE is specifically processed to provide mosquito-repellent activity and has been recognized for its effectiveness in properly formulated repellents.
We chose OLE because it offers a more established botanical approach to mosquito protection than many essential oils alone.
Geranium Oil
Geranium contains geraniol and citronellol, two aromatic compounds frequently associated with botanical insect-repellent activity. Its strong floral-green fragrance can help discourage mosquitoes from landing while also rounding out the aroma of the entire blend.
Tea Tree Oil
Tea tree oil contains a complex mixture of aromatic terpenes, including terpinen-4-ol. Its sharp, medicinal-herbal aroma adds another scent mosquitoes may find undesirable. Research into tea tree specifically as a mosquito repellent is more limited than for ingredients such as lemongrass or lemon eucalyptus, so we include it as one part of our broader botanical blend rather than relying upon it alone.
Why Use a Blend?
Mosquitoes locate people using an extraordinary combination of signals — including carbon dioxide, body heat and odors produced by our skin.
Botanical oils don’t make you invisible to mosquitoes. Instead, their highly aromatic plant compounds can help create a confusing or undesirable scent environment around the skin.
And that is exactly why we don’t rely on just one.
By combining citrus, herbal, mint, floral and earthy botanical oils, each ingredient contributes something a little different to our naturally aromatic mosquito-discouraging blend.
While no product can guarantee you will never be bitten by a mosquito or will never contract transmitted viruses, our Le Skeeter Eater lotion can certainly help keep the pesky critters at bay without worrying about chemicals and preservatives being absorbed into your bloodstream. Because a nickel size portion in the palm of your hand will cover both hands and arms this 6 oz. Tottle should last a long time.

“Never thought it possible to go outside without being bitten from head to toe by mosquitos! Couldn’t even go fishing, golfing or enjoy any outdoor activity. A friend gave me a bottle of lotion that he said would work but I had my doubts. He was right and I was wrong! It does not contain Deet which makes it even better. I now suggest it to everyone.” ~Dr. Ford
