Antique Hamadan Hand Knotted Rug

Measuring 48” X 50” this antique rug is hand knotted & made of wool. Colors are still vibrant! It is referred to as a Hamadan ( or Hamedan) named after what is thought to be one of the the oldest cities in Iran ( Persia) & is a major city west of Tehran.

The finely crafted rugs from this region incorporate the culture of the 1,500 villages in the area & are highly sought after. A distinctive feature is its single wefted edges.

I can see this hanging above a fireplace or on a feature wall. Appraised by Mark Gonsenhauser’s Oriental Rugs, Virginia Beach, VA. At $2500 In 2008 and have increased in price substantially since then.
