Crafted for long summer days and life outdoors, Sun Shield Organic Tallow Cream is a rich, waterless botanical skin cream handmade from scratch using grass-fed beef tallow, organic plant oils, un-coated non-nano zinc oxide, and nourishing botanicals selected for their ability to comfort and condition dry skin.

Certain conventional sunscreen ingredients have been studied for systemic absorption following repeated use. Consumers concerned about ingredient simplicity often prefer mineral-based formulations featuring non-nano zinc oxide and botanical oils.

Sun Shield Organic Tallow Cream was thoughtfully created for individuals seeking a more traditional approach to outdoor skin care using recognizable, nourishing ingredients handcrafted in small batches from scratch.

Once the Tallow is harvested, it is slowly rendered at low temperatures — this process is important in keeping all the  vitamins, minerals, and fatty acid intact to nourish your skin.

Unlike heavily fragranced commercial products, Sun Shield is thoughtfully crafted to glide onto the skin smoothly while leaving it feeling soft, moisturized, and cared for — never sticky or overly heavy. This preservative-free formula melts beautifully into the skin and is suitable for both face and body.

Handcrafted in small batches using traditional methods, Sun Shield Organic Tallow Cream contains no added water, synthetic preservatives, or unnecessary fillers. Every ingredient is carefully selected for both quality and purpose.

Organic sunscreens use large mineral particles that cannot penetrate the skin barrier. These active ingredients must remain on the surface to effectively bounce and deflect the sun's rays.

Because the barrier is physically placed on the skin, these formulas start working right away, whereas chemical sunscreens often require 15-30 minutes to absorb and convert UV rays into heat.

If you rub or massage a mineral sunscreen until it completely "disappears" into your skin, you risk disrupting the protective layer. DO NOT RUB IN COMPLETELY! This can leave microscopic gaps where UV rays can penetrate. So apply Sun Shield so that it sits lightly on your skin to help repel the UV rays.

Why We Chose These Ingredients

Grass-Fed/Grass Finished Beef Tallow

A time-honored skincare ingredient naturally rich in fatty acids that help soften and moisturize the skin while supporting a smooth, nourished feel. Tallow works as an emollient and occlusive, meaning it smooths flakiness and creates a physical seal to prevent water loss. Tallow also contains fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K which nourish the skin barrier.

Our Tallow is also Hormone, Antibiotic and GMO FREE!

Organic Jojoba Oil

A lightweight non-comedogenic liquid that mimics the skins natural sebum making it an excellent deep moisturizer. It also balances oil production, soothes inflammation and delivers healing antioxidants without leaving the skin feeling greasy.

Organic Coconut Oil

Deeply moisturizes dry skin, builds the skins protective barrier and fights inflammation! Because it is rich in lauric acid, it also provides natural antimicrobial properties that help soothe mild wounds and target acne-causing bacteria. Coconut Oil also adds a creamy glide and helps condition dry skin while contributing to the luxurious texture of the cream.

Organic Shea Butter (from the Shea Nut)

Shea butter is an exceptionally effective emollient, as it soothes and locks in moisture. It’s also high in fatty acids, which help balance oil production in the skin and has a large concentration of vitamins. Vitamins in Shea butter include A, E, and F, all of which have antioxidant properties that help with circulation and cell growth¹. Additionally, Shea butter has anti-inflammatory properties, which means it’s great for relieving irritated skin.

Uncoated Non-Nano Zinc Oxide

The particles in non-nano zinc are larger than 100 nanometers which means they sit entirely on the skin, This ensures that there is no systemic absorption or risk of hormonal disruption. We also choose to use uncoated zinc oxide. Coated zinc is often treated with silicone-based ingredients, and can trap impurities and sweat, which can cause clogged pores and breakouts. Uncoated zinc allows the skin to breathe and perform its natural functions. Many users prioritize uncoated non-nano for purer, more natural, and eco-friendly skincare.

Unlike chemical sunscreens, non-nano zinc does not dissolve in seawater or harm coral reefs.

It works immediately upon application to reflect and scatter both UVA and UVB rays, with no waiting. Non Nano Zinc is as inert, non irritating mineral that does not clog pores and is highly recommend for people with sensitive skin, Eczema or Rosacea. Zinc Oxide does not degrade or lose its effectiveness when exposed to the sun, providing log lasting protection.

Organic Red Raspberry Seed Oil

A luxurious botanical oil valued for its nourishing fatty acids and antioxidant-rich composition.  It is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These lock in moisture and reinforce your natural skin barrier, preventing transepidermal water loss.

Studies show it can absorb UVB and UVC rays. While dermatologists don't recommend using it as your only sun protectant, applying it before your regular lotion adds a boost of natural protection.

Beeswax

Helps create a protective moisture barrier while contributing to the cream’s smooth, stable texture.

Vitamin E + Rosemary Extract

Natural antioxidants used to help maintain freshness and slow oxidation in this waterless formulation. Sage essential oil for a nice clean aroma

Care Instructions

Because this is a fresh, waterless botanical cream crafted without synthetic preservatives, avoid introducing water into the container. Always use clean, dry hands when applying. Do not completely rub in, as mentioned before. Apply a thin layer almost like you would apply icing to a cake.

Keep in dry cool place if possible, or at least out of direct sunlight to extend life of product. Reapply after spending time in the water or out in the sun for any length of time.
Always check for signs of skin becoming too red or irritated. If this occurs get out of the sun and cool down.
